It finally came - the long-awaited return of these garage rock bastards. When not busy fist-fighting The White Stripes, The Von Bondies make music that sounds quite a lot like their fighting buddies - just more melodic and with lots of focus on a good, well-written song. If you're into garage rock, noisy pop, The White Stripes or The Germans, this is really worth the try. Others might want to check it out too - feel free!

So, here's a side project from A Kid Hereafter, who was also posted yesterday. This time, it's his grind metal band called A Kid Hereafter In The Grinding Light. "Grind Metal" translates "the faster, the better", and AKHITGL truly lives up to that - super fast and super short songs: This one spins for 31:34 and contains 30 tunes. Well, Grind Metal is definately not easy listening, and this one is primarily for the metal/hard rock dudes. This band seems kind of sarcastic and ironic, though - but as always, A Kid Hereafter is shit loads of fun to listen to. This is the best and the only Danish Grind Metal release of 2008!!

Okay - I'm going to try to catch up with the good Danish releases of 2008 that were not posted here on the blog. First off is A Kid Hereafter, a very random Danish dude that makes shit loads of music. When named A Kid Hereafter, he combines pop/punk with heavy metal and the result is pretty lovely. The shit is catchy, rocking and a bit silly which makes this album a lot of fun to listen to. But, you'll have to be in the mood for not-to-damn-serious music to listen to this. Check it out!

Here's a young dude from Belgium. You might know him from the Belgian Artrock-outfit Guernica. If you don't, then get started, Guernica makes fucking awesome music. Anyway, Wixel is not the same as the stuff he does with his bandmates in Guernica. This is quiet, ambient, shoegazing post-rock with electronic elements - not completely unlike German band The Notwist. Also, if you like Sígur Rós, you might want to check out this bastard.

Gezus Chrystler - Gezus Chrystler (2009)

Gezus Chrystler is a mash-up between Danish indie "stars" Frank Ziyanak (from The Wong Boys) and Kim Kix (from Powersolo). This debut album contains of 4 tunes, but the album lasts for 35:35 and is actually 25 tunes together on what should sound like one long tune. First, it seems kind of weird that to musical talents choose to wrap their fine melodies in LOTS of noise, buzz and distortion, but after a few listens it starts to grow. For fans of garage-rock, noiserock and psychedelic stuff. Quite fine.

Asobi Seksu - Hush (2009)

Asobi Seksu are a New York shoegazing band playing pop tunes with good dynamics in the tradition of My Bloody Valentine, Moose, Ride and The Primitives. This is not as noisy as Citrus from 2006, and in my opinion this thing isn't as good as Citrus, that was an amazing record. But still, the single Me & Mary is quite a fine noisepop tune, and Sing Tomorrow's Praise is Asobi Seksu at their most melodic and melancholic. Asobi Seksu, which means "playful sex" in Japanese, is more pop than noise. But this is still worth checking out.

Telepathe - Dance Mother (2009)

Telepathe are an artpop-duo from New York, and they are going to be shit hyped. On their debut album Dance Mother, they recieve a helping hand from TV On The Radio guitarist and producing genius Dave Sitek, as well as the crooner of the same band, Kyp Malone also guest on one tune. Also Shannon Funchess of the New York funk-punksters !!! drops by and says hello. All in all, this makes a very fine weirdo pop album of screwed psychedelia that you can dance to.

J. Tillman - Vacilando Territory Blues (2009)

J. Tillman has been doing a lot of music for quite a long time, but among you guys, he might be most well-known as the drummer of American indie folksters Fleet Foxes. Tillman is a great musician himself, and that can really be heard on Vacilando Territory Blues, a record of fine indie folk songs, not completely unlike Fleet Foxes, but not exactly like them either. But definately worth a go if you like Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens or maybe Bright Eyes.

Oh Land - Fauna (2008)

This one was released in Denmark late 2008 and it's very, very interesting. Oh Land draws on shit loads of inspirations. I hear Björk, Roísin Murphy, Portishead and CocoRosie in some of this, just to mention some. Oh Land worked with the amazing componist Davide Rossi (Brian Eno, The Verve, Goldfrapp, Coldplay), and that can really be heard one some of these amazing tunes. Just check out the brilliant single callled Audition Day - it is absolutely amazing.

Peter Broderick - Home (2009)

Peter Broderick has just moved to Copenhagen to become a member of the Danish multi-instrumentalist band-collective Efterklang, a band that is really on its way up and recieving lots of acclaim and attention in Britain these days. Broderick is an amazing componist that really knows how to orchestrate his songs. Some of the songs start in a quiet way and then they erupt into epics with lots of choir. I'm not that sure if this album is from 2009 - but I've just discovered it. For fans of, erm, Efterklang, Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009)

2009 is here, so let's start it in a good way. Animal Collective sound pretty screwed and carry a lot of tags on them - Freak-folk, experimental noise and indie are some of them. Harmonic Beach Boys pop, African tribal chants, minimalism, minimal techno, psychedelia and dub are some of the genres that the Animals flirt with on this album of twisted beauty. Do NOT classify under "easy listening" - Animal Collective demands a lot of your attention as a listener. Luckily, they make it all worth it. I personally think that this album will appear on some of the music magazines Best Of 2009 lists - we have 12 months to find out.

The Flaming Lips have chosen to give us both a sensationally weird film with an equally weird soundtrack for Christmas present this year. If you think that Christmas doesn't make sense at all, you should watch the movie that doesn't make sense at all neither. The film score is really weird - Christmas a la The Flaming Lips, I guess. The twisted Chistmas-soundtrack is right here, although this brilliantly no-sense-making album doesn't sound very much like Christmas.

Here's the album I requested. Dutch Uncles are a British new wave-indie-band, and this album is absolutely brilliant. Twisted rhytms, amazing melodies and catchyness times a thousand. Just check out Face In or Steadycam and I'm pretty sure they will stick to your brain for a couple af days, if not more. This is so much better than most of the junk that the British music scene likes to throw at our faces. Highly recommended for fans of British indie stuff, new wave or just for fans of a good song.

Today's Christmas treat hasn't got anything to do with Christmas. But what a treat! The album cover is absolutely astonishing (although it doesn't make ANY sense) and so is the album. The Soundtrack Of Our Lives are a bunch of Swedish psych-retro-garage rockers, and Communion is their very ambitious 24-track brand new double album. Tunes as the opener Babel On and Lost Prophets In Vain show the greatness of this darn good band. Highly recommended for fans of the early Kings Of Leon, Tom Petty, The White Stripes and maybe even Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Glam Chops are one of Art Brut-frontguy Eddie Argos' thousands of bands - but the only ones that have done Christmas songs this year. As they claim: "With the spiraling interglobal recession showing no signs of improvement, GLAM CHOPS (Glam Rock supergroup featuring Eddie Argos of Art Brut, The Vessel – singer of David Devant & His Spirit Wife) have made a joint decision to give their Christmas single away to their fans for free in a bid to get the nation smiling once again. There's definitely a Glam Rock revival on the cards and Great Britain needs it more than ever. It's finally here. The Justice live album. Recorded during one of their energetic live shows on the tour last spring, this album reflects all the energeticness. This release comes together with their new road movie about "two frogs in the USA", that is also called "A Cross The Universe". Me and Joachim went to see it, and we'd say that it's definitely worth a watch. The songs on the album are all live remixes of their own songs, with samples from other artists. Very ravey.

Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, Team B - here's the latest superband. And this is an indie superband! Consisting of members from Arcade Fire, Beirut and LCD Soundsystem, it doesn't get much better name-wise. And to call it Team B must be really ironic - this is clearly an indie Team A. This album is quite fine, and I really recommend fans of the above-mentioned bands (not Audioslave and Velvet Revolver, you wanker) to give this stuff a listen. I think you'll like it very much.

Tim Christensen - Superior (2008)

New stuff from this Danish dude, it's been 5 years since he last released an album. Now he's back, but things are a bit different this time. There's not so much cool 1-2-3-4 bluesy rock tunes that Tim usually does in a very convincing and cool way. This album worships the good ballad (and the horrible ballad on the only real bummer on this album, Wonder Of Wonders), and there's a lot of Tim's voice and acoustic guitars here. Luckily, he's an extremely talented songwriter, and that is what makes this album a very nice experience.

Marybell Katastrophy - The More (2008)

This thing is Danish, and it's absolutely fantastic. Marybell Katastrophy play electronic music very similar to The Knife. And this is, in my opinion, by far the best Danish electronica release of the year. Clever and catchy, this album just thrills you 'till you stop listening to it. There are bunches of great tunes here. Especially recommended for fans of The Knife (this shit will blow you away), but also worth the check for fans of Justice or Trentemøller.

In the home country of Arnold Schwarzenegger and DJ Ötzi, where the "alpenpop" reigns the hitlists, THERE, something special has occured. Ja, Panik has made an album of part German-part English indieROCK songs. Noise, feedback, fuzz and catchy stuff dominates the soundscapes created by these Austrian lads. And what a lovely mess. In these times where all near-German stuff that seems to get released is Polarkreis 18 and Tokio Hotel, it's nice with some guys that don't give a shit about mainstream. Bravo!!

Here's some new hot Danish stuff. No And The Maybes play indie chamber pop with very catchy whistling song-themes, falsetto vocals, claps ang analogue synthesizers. Everything's included on the single Petra Petrified which is a brilliant blast of pop played with real instruments. Makes you want to drink a little, dance a little, flirt a little, jump a little, think a little and then cry a little. The mood seems to be happy almost all way through but you're leaved with a feeling of "Did I forget something?" which actually is kinda cool.

The Wong Boys - The Wong Boys (2008)

The cover reveals the really bad taste on this Danish album. It seemed to be a silly side project when The Wong Boys released the single Git Ur Fuk On earlier this year. But on the opening track the Boys prove that it's more than just being silly. The title is Wolf Heart and the repeating lyrics sing "I'm just a kid who wants to be loved". A couple of tracks are just as silly as Git Ur Fuk On but on tunes as Alien Disguise, the sophistication suddenly steps intothe picture. Giving you Danish macho-electro. Yeah.

German post-rock is on today's agenda. That's not a bad thing, just check out the guys from Jersey. This stuff was made for a German documentary of a German kid that lives in the glorious little town of Eisenach and then gets discovered by a model scout (!?!?!). The documentary just follows his way to the fashion business, and that sound somewhat between extremely boring and quite interesting. At least the soundtrack is very interesting. Enjoy!

Glasvegas - Glasvegas (2008)

Glasvegas are a Scottish band that try to blend the two cities Glasgow and Las Vegas into a band name. Interesting. What is even more interesting is that Glasvegas play a sort of epic noisepop mixed with classic indie-rock melodies. That's the way to get hyped these days. Luckily, Glasvegas know exactly how to do it and therefore they deliver a brilliant debut album. The Observer gave the album a top character, NME gave it a 9 out of 10 and the album has recieved even more critical acclaim. They're also releasing a christmas album this year - we will post that one for sure.

David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today (2008)

Byrne and Eno call this "electronic gospel-folk", which must by all costs be a revolutionary idea. The albums is a great mix of creative juices between the ex-frontman of the new wave band Talking Heads, David Byrne, and the wizard producer of all good albums from the 80's, Brian Eno. It's easy to identify these two artists in the sounds of the album, Eno writing the music, and Byrne writing the thoughtful lyrics and melodies. Anyways, this is an great album, even though it's not as good as their previous releases.

Amazing Baby play psych-rock, not completely unlike MGMT - the biggest difference is that MGMT has that undeniable brilliant touch of pop sensibility where Amazing Baby seem to focus more on driven rock rythms. This is not an album, it's their first EP and it consists of 4 tracks that have recieved lots of acclaim already. Check this one out and see if you think the hype is right!

Megapuss - Surfing (2008)

Everybody's neo-hippie of choice, Devendra Banhart, is back with a new album! This time, he's in a band called Megapuss together with Greg Rogove of Priestbird and Fab Moretti of The Strokes. The first single decribes the whole scene here: It's called Adam & Steve, the guitar solo is a heavily distorted version of George Michael's "Careless Whisper"-theme, and the music video is extremely silly, featuring Banhart himself in colourful underpants doing some weird sort of dance. Well, these guys are not exactly doing anything to get mainstream airplay anywhere. They just have shit loads of fun. The cover pretty much tells the story.

Paul McCartney is back with a band called Fireman. It's kinda basic classic rock, but it's much better that Macca's latest offerings. The cover doesn't promise anything classic and mature, though. Well, there's not that much to say in this case, don't expect the ol' man to scream us a progressive techno-gabber tune here, this is rock as it was back in the 60's-70's. For fans of, erm, Beatles, The Who or for people that just try to turn back time by playing old-sounding music. Not the Fab Four, but indeed not bad either.

Danish rock is on the schedule. DAD are old men on the Danish rock scene and, let's be honest, they've peaked a couple of years ago. This album of Comics-rock (why on Earth do us Danes call it that!?!?) has recieved quite bad reviews in Danish media. But, what the hell, I don't think this is bad - this is just pure rock, not missing out on the fun, still not just throwing clichées in your face. Worth a listen.

Scott Weiland - Happy In Galoshes (2008)

First of all, I need to tell you: Scott Weiland is my bitch. Now you know. Everything he does is kinda right and still kinda wrong, at that is what I like so much about him. He's a brilliant musician and a true performer also. And this album proves nothing else, although it doesn't sound like Velvet Revolver or Stone Temple Pilots. This is more of a singer-songwriter effort, and except for the HORRIBLE!!!!! tune called Fame, it's a quite fine effort. Crash is a catchy tune, Missin' Cleveland is a rock-ballad, She Sold Her System is the closest thing I've heard of an acid balland. Turn down the tempo and chill out with Weiland.

Yes, this one is kind of late on the blog, but all the links to it seem to disappear. This is not a flirt with electronic like Sometimes They Drop By, this is, in my opinion, the thing that The Raveonettes do best: play damn tight, add stinging guitars and beautiful vocals over fine melodies. Especially the cool Young And Beautiful shines trough together The Thief that is almost hypnotizing with its strange jazz beat. Ugly, dusty and dark Film Noire as music. The best Raveonettes-EP yet, looking forwards to the next one in December!

Nine Inch Nails did it with Ghosts this year - now it's time for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to make an album of instrumental ambient tracks. Just one different thing - there's no drum in sight here. It's basically 10 tunes of screwed noise. Stoned? Yes indeed. I think the thought of doing a whole album of noise is completely alright, but it just seems that BRMC is moving nowhere. It does absolutely nothing to one's image of them. I mean, it's alright, but I just can't see the point of BRMC doing this album.

Luckily, The Colourful Life lives up to the high expectations with stunningly fine rockers and well-written ballads and dramatic arrangements. For fans of Radiohead, post-punk, Arctic Monkeys and British indie in general. This is not the last thing we've heard from these guys.

Bonjour!

Quentin Dupieux aka Mr. Oizo is probably the most Artrock human being ever. His contribution to the latest Ed Banger compilation can't even be described as a music number, and Dupieux has sad some weird stuff about this album, including "some of these songs are good, some of them are bad and some of them are just okay". I guess you have to be quite a weirdo to be signed at Ed Banger. His music is usually incredibly avantgarde (read this: bad), just being way too fucked to really understand. If you like this, I sencerely respect you.

The band stated, this going to be "EODM's latest fabulous weapon, a top-secret music missile, a sonic warhead sexually tipped for her pleasure, shot from the deck of USS EODM Mantastic Fantastic.". Well, I'll choose to believe in them. EODM are back, reloaded with lots of energy waiting to be released on this new album. I think that Jesse Hughes is playing a bigger role on this album, than he's done on the two others, but that doesn't effect the quality.

Death Be Kite is a Danish alienated indie-band who are starting to emerge from the deep depths of the Danish underground. Expect fast rhythm guitars and shifting boy/girl vocals. They have been receiving some airplay this year with their single "Himmelfahrtskommando", but haven't been hitting the charts. It's definitely worth a listen.

The fact that all track sound like a soundtrack from a Tarantino Motion Picture or some bad old thriller is even more impressing. Bonjour!

French music on the menu! M83 released the fine Before The Dawn Heals Us in 2005, an album that contained the anthemic killer tune Don't Save Us From The Flames. Where inspirations as My Bloody Valentine and Sigur Ros shined through on BTDHU, S=Y is more of a tribute to New Order, Vince Clarke and Depeche Mode. M83 called this an electronic concept album. I absolutely hate that description. Luckily, S=Y doens't lack those cinematic sonic soundscapes that M83 are so appreciated for. Electronic music for those who hate electronic music.

Ryan Adams And The Cardinals - Cardinology (2008)

Ryan Adams is one of my favorite artists. Releasing masterpieces as Rock N Roll and especially the magnificent Gold, Ryan Adams has shown what a fucking brilliant songwriter he is. Lately he has teamed up with The Cardinals a lot of times, so from now on he's actually a part of The Cardinals. This means he's not as fucked and raw as heard on Rock N Roll - it's a more controlled Ryan Adams we hear today. This album is the best he's ever done with The Cardinals, though, and it's highly recommended. Try this one out on my behalf!

Here's the 22nd most acclaimed album of 2008 this far. Songs are written and played by Peter Brewis of what was former known as Field Music. It's a 32-minute 8-track indie pop concept album written as a part of an imaginary crime thriller and it's a hundred times better than it sounds! It's the kind of pop that is posted surprisingly much on this blog - not the stupid kind of pop, but just kind melodies not drained in distorted guitars. Hard to find but easy to enjoy.

Mani Spinx - Black Mamba (2008)

Hello.

Mr. Mani Spinx is a Danish experimental pop artist. Appreciated by Danish album reviewers for his willing to try out a thousand different genres on every album, Mani doesn't recieve shitloads of airplay at home. Actually, he just doesn't get shitloads of airplay at all. The music can be described as "a happy charmeleon on drugs" or just as "pop". Not the stupid kind of pop, though. Cool tracks includes the extremely annoying, but still very addictive C'mon which has been played just a little bit on Danish radio.

The Dears were right on the edge. They were hot shit, the next big thing and now they're could-have-been's. They never really got their breakthrough right, and the rules say you can't stand on the breakthrough-edge too long. The Dears did, and now mainstream has totally forgotten these indie guys. And that's a shame for these dudes that were the Canadian indie heroes, a place taken over by Arcade Fire, I believe. As always the melodies are melancholic and guitar-driven, which uses to please fans of, well, Arcade Fire, Coldplay and especially The Thrills.

AC/DC - Black Ice (2008)

AC/DC are back - and they haven't lost their power (take a couple of seconds to figure that sentence out - it's cheap, but it's goddamn hilarious. In a bad way.). All catastrophal physics jokes aside, this is a brand new thing, and AC/DC are not more outdated than they've always been.
Their music isn't that damn innovative, but why would you care, you're already getting drunk in cheap beer and jumping around naked if you're listening to this. And you might want a doctor or a psychiatrist, at least just for the attention.

In my opinion Electric Six is just a two-hit-wonder-band("Gay Bar" and "Danger! High Voltage") and has lost it's glow with their newer albums. But heck, you now you want it. At least for the humor.

This anticipated bastard has hit the blog! The rockers that forgot they needed a guitar player has stated that they have completely transformed their look and this album will be very unexpected. I hope that they'll go on stage with Gibson Flying V-guitars screaming "fuck you guys!!" and then just letting the groupies stream in. And even though that sound like a killer idea, it is very hard to imagine happening to Keane. Also, they might lose a fan or two.

It's filled with rich orchestrated tunes blended with some up-tempo, contemplative ones. If you're into Choir Of Young Believers, Coldplay or other bands that like minor chords, these guys won't let you down. One of those albums that doesn't get you dancing in two minutes. This album is something special, too - Nick Cave's Grinderman even feature on one track, Just Like A King. Check this guy out, he's the very concentrate of blues.

The Danish stuff alert is turned on again. Tina Dickow is on the edge to do an international breakthrough. She's having plenty of succes in England right now, and she's also well-known in Denmark. What a surprise. This album is actually three EPs melted together which limits more beautiful songs for us. Most of them is just Tina and her guitar, but that is more than convincing in itself, just listen to Quarter To Forever. This is a brilliant and beautiful album.

This year, The Raveonettes are releasing one EP in September, one in October and one in November. Frontman Sune Wagner sure knows how to make money to buy all that hairspray. Oh, the music! Well, more electronic than before, but still noisy and psychedelic. The other half of the band has just given birth to a baby. Congratulations on that soon-bass-playing little one!

Today I bring you Amorine Queen, the comeback-album from Danish/German noise rockers 18th Dye. It's been 13 years since last time, but the style hasn't changed. Good rock melodies spiced up with noisy guitars and rumbling basslines. Think somewhere between My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and The White Stripes and smile. An album that contains plenty of "cool" and a little "kitcsh" as indicated on the Cher-90's-style vocoded male voice on Chinese Spoon. This is amazingly good!

It's a kind of not-very-radio-friendly pop melodies, carried to excellence by asian inspired plays, brilliant pop melodies, rich orchestration and the beautiful voice of Jannis. TIFTHIYE is actually just quite a showoff revealing Jannis' amazing skills as a songwriter and as a musician. Recommended for you "arty" types out there and everyone else.

The pseudonyms are there and so are the bluesy, groovy, fast guitars from Mr Moustache, followed by the drums of Ginger Elvis.

Well, it's not very normal and you can clearly hear the Chinese inspirations on this one. Of course, Gorillaz have also set their marks on the monkey-tastic musical, as well has The Good The Bad And The Queen. If you were looking for ethnic monkey music, you've come to the right place.

The Cold War Kids post is back again after a sudden disappearing. Don't know what the hell happened there. But now I've had time to listen to it and I must say that this is quite brilliant. It continues where Robbers And Cowards stopped, delivering fine melodies, not too richly instrumented and build up around Nathan Willett's fabulous voice. The last half of the record is genius, containing killers as Avalanche In B, Dreams Old Men Dream, Relief and the beautiful album closer, Cryptomnesia. These guys are huge in a couple of years.

Today, I bring you: Canadian indiepop by Of Montreal. And it's not normal. Acutally, I bet this is a 100 times funnier when you're wasted, 'cause in a sober world, this doesn't make any sense. It actually requires quite a listener if you want to get through this thing still wearing your ears. But still, somehow, the songs are really addictive and, actually, irresistible. This might be avant-pop, but it's still pop. And it sticks to your brain. Yes, you either love it or hate it, but you can't get the songs out of your head. This is, no matter what, a quite weird experience.

Jakobínarína - The First Crusade (2007)

Jakobínarína is a would-have-been-next-big-thing-coming-out-the-Icelandic-music-scene-but-unfortunately-they've-stopped-their-career indie-punk band.

These very stereotypical icelanders play indie music heavily influenced by early 80's punk music. Quick guitars accompanied by keyboards and the dark voice of the lead singer Gunnar Ragnarson. Jakobínarína toured as support with the Kaiser Chiefs. Before getting any big success in the international mainstream, they announced that they would stop as a band, for educational purposes(the band members are 17-20 years old). The young age really reflects in their texts, with ironic and rebellious titles such as I've Got A Date With My Television and His Lyrics Are Disastrous.

Today's treat is fucking amazing - it's an album I've been waiting for all year. Kings Of Leon are going to follow up 2007's best album (in my opinion), Only By The Night, with this bastard. The 3 brothers and their cousin were drunk doing all the recordings, but you can't hear that in any bad way. Expect cool southern garage rock - a bit more melancolic this time, the songs here are dominated by minor accords and feature come of the best vocal performances from Caleb Followill's side.
I think they've done it again.

Being one of the more wuiet band riding on the British indie wave dominated by Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Maximo Park and The Bravery to name a few, Elbow now seemed to have hit the spotlight. Why? Because they are stabile. Franz Ferdinand released way to many singles that sounded way too much the same. Bloc Party has gone completely shit electro. Maximo Park blew it with their second album and The Bravery completely changed their style. Cheers to stability!

You probably know these guys way too well. What a wonder they've never won this one before, but to be honest, I don't believe in them this time neither.I guess that In Rainbows isn't actual enough anymore. Although they're not winning this one, you still gotta respect Radiohead as one of the greatest bands of our generation, though.

No British music award without a little bit of Arctic Monkeys. Alex Turner's side project is run together with Miles Kane, and they make sure you'll get your fresh shot of glorious indie pop. I haven't listened to this one, Alex Turner isn't my cup of Darjeeling. But Hjörtur says that "it's actually pretty good", and I bet this is your thing if you like these cold monkeys of the Arctic. By the way, the lady on the cover is incredibly hot. Makes you wanna buy the psysical release.

Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin singer) and Alison Krauss (regular beauty that can sing) got together and made some nice folk-music and soon, every single album-reviewer from Great Britain were licking their arses so much that their tongues must still taste of shit. Okay, that sounded gross, but this actually is a beautiful album and I deeply recommend it.

This über-talented young British alterna-folk singer-songwriter is one of the hottest things coming from this nu-folk wave or what you'll call it. She can be compared a little to Tiny Vipers (expect a post with her, when she releases something!) although I don't think they sound the same at all. I think Laura Marling is the folk-future and Alas, I Cannot Swim is just the beginning of something.

You might not know shit loads of prog rock bands from Finland, but Fries Of Freedom is going to change that. Introducing Von Hertzen Brothers! They're not afraid of making lots of references to prog rock's shameful past, and therefor, you'll get very tired of listening to it if you're not in the mood for listening to this sort of stuff and taking it way too seriously. A lot of these tunes are 5-6-7 minutes of string-heavy epics leaving you with a feeling of "Wow, did I just listen to this? I have so bad taste!".

Expect light electropop a la the Scissor Sisters cover of Comfortably Numb. This may sound pretty boring, but actually, this album contains great tunes like Senses On Fire and People Are So Unpredictable which create brilliant electro-soundscapes. These guys have been in the business for a long time, but they still know how to hit it. And the lead singer is so obviously gay, it's crazy to watch him live!

Introducing you guys to The Baseball Project! Well, you might not know this band very well, but maybe you know R.E.M. Their guitarist is named Peter Buck and he plays bass in The Baseball Project, which is a quartet of old people that rock. All the songs are funnily about baseball which doesn't make this album a long-lasting timeless divine experience, it's just great fun to listen to and it's perfect for driving long trips in your car a couple of times. Belgian glam-rock! This may sound as interesting as wiping your butt, but actually it's FAR more interesting. These guys play some kind of glampop with added guitars. 3 guys are singing, and this record just sounds like great fun! Being more than just a perfect feel-good album like their two previous ones, Judas actually delivers really well-written songs combined with cool over-the-top harmonies. This album seems more serious and less party-minded, though. Their two previous albums are also strongly recommended. Fans of Black Kids, Muse and MGMT would probably appreciate this.

Today's treat is Spanish psych-folk. Cuchillo have already shared the stage with such acts as Black Rebel Motocycle Club and The Brian Jonestown Massacre and they are really heading forwards these days. Cuchillo consists of Israel Marco (Guitar and vocals) and Daniel Dominguez (Drums and percussion) and it's really impressing how only 2 people can make such a complicated folk album. The melody always comes first on this album but there are many influences such as Postcore, African Rhytms and Psychodelia. Nice stuff from Spain has landed!

So, here's the new one by Bloc Party. To be honest, their first single was total shit electro, but frontman Kele Okoreke has said that some of this album is "very experimental, some of it is classic Bloc Party". I was just surfing MySpace and found this fucked up math-post-hardcore-rock group from Luxembourg (!!!) called Mutiny At The Bounty. They're working on a new album, the only other thing they've put out is this split-EP from 2005 with an emo-band from Luxembourg (!?!). Mutiny At The Bounty have the last part of this Spilt-EP, and they totally steal the spotlight. For fans of something between Battles, At The Drive-In and Dillinger Escape Plan.

Late of the Pier - Fantasy Black Channel (2008)

Late of the Pier is a four-piece electro-punk straight outta' the clubs of England. It's an ugly cover but it's a great record. LOTP sounds a lot like a very hyperactive version of Klaxons or Justice with a little hint of some Pink Floyd. Groovy synth melodies accompanied by fast drums and riffy guitar.

Just bought this through iTunes - and like 2 minutes after, I found this Rapidshare-file. Well, that is spelled G-O-D (space) D-A-M-M-I-T. But, right now I don't really care. Cause this psych-indie has totally stoned me out. I'm, like, in trance. Which means, THIS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I haven't heard something as weirdly stoned since (blasphemy!) early Queens Of The Stone Age. This has blown me away, it's by far one of the most interesting records of 2008 yet. Associated acts are The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, but this kicks the hell out of what I've heard from them. Check out Know What I Mean.

Well, you probably sit in your living room watching the Olympics and thinking "Why on Earth is my country doing so unbelievably bad??". Also, you might be thinking "But, those Chinese bastards can't make any music". WRONG! Let me introduce you to Carsick Cars, a Chinese postpunk-noise-indie band. Being favorites of Sonic Youth, they even had to open for Sonic Youth in Beijing, but the Chinese government kicked in and said "Hell no, not as long as Sonic Youth supports the Free Tibet Campaign", so their warm-up gig was canceled just an hour before they had to play it. Damn Chinese folks. But this is actually really cool indie music (and it's against the law to play their songs in Chinese radio. Don't ask me why), so check it out!

Hi!

I hate metal, but a lot of new stuff is coming on the metal scene. We have two bands that really draw lots of attention right now.

First off is Slipknot. These guys enjoy wearing masks (don't we all..?) and faking that they play metal. They have this new thing coming out, it's their forth outcome and it's called All Hope Is Gone. With song titles as "Execute", "This Cold Black" and "Psychosocial", the scene is set. There's even 3 bonus tracks on this one! Enjoy the metal soup!

The William Blakes is a Danish indie-rock band, who clearly are very impressed of Flaming Lips and English poetry. The tunes are great, some really catchy rock stuff.

More glorious Danish music. This time, the genre is Artrock, and this Danish debut has blown me away! This is, so far, the best Danish release of 2008. Amazing (sometimes Beatle-esque) melodies combined with extreme catchyness, musical joy and intelligence, plus a fragile male indie voice. This is so fuckin amazing. And it's just a debut. This makes things look even more promising for the future. This is both the beginning and the future of Danish Artrock (which must be one of my favorite genres). Check out No Art Worth The Look Of You, and you won't question me.

Given a zero out of ten stars in NME, this only proves how sloppy the journalism at this magazine has become. Who on earth could be able to resist a hard-rocking icelandic man with a full beard?

You'll find some great tunes on this album which is covering a lot of genres, from acoustic folk to growling metal-pastiche, to blues. Even if you listen to this record a 1078 times you will still find new undiscovered things in it. Despite what NME says.

If you ever get the chance, trust me, watch them live.

Okay, this slightly-highly-anticipated thing has just leaked and Fries Of Freedom have found it for ya! Haven't heard it yet (yeah, we're THAT fast!), but expect melancholic rock with lots of strings. Well, as the cover tells us, the sky is the limit on this one (well, the sky is always the limit for frontman Richard Ashcroft), and I think that almost everyone is excited to hear if The Verve have nailed it with this one. There you go, 2008's maybe most anticipated album is right here!

The Vines - Melodia (2008)

Despite this extremely ugly album cover, Austrialian band The Vines do almost everything right. Their lead singer suffers from Aspergers Syndrome and has freaked out on The Late Show with David Letterman while performing their classic anthem, Get Free, but he doesn't really seem to give a shit. The first single off this album is called He's A Rocker, and it's a damn fine, catchy rock-out-with-your-cock-out tune. Together with The White Stripes, The Vines must be the kings of the garage rock revival. Yayr!

Trolle//Siebenhaar - Couple Therapy (2008)

Here's the Danish stuff I talked about. This album is made by Pato Siebenhaar and Ane Trolle (vocals on "Moan" by Trentemøller. Anyone?), two of the big indie ones on the Danish music scene. The album is a laid back and poppy one, combining Trolle's smooth vocals with the cool beats of Pato. Actually, if you're into Amy Winehouse or Duffy because of their motown-sound and smooth, crunchy vocals, you'll like this. This album hasn't got that jazz-feel, but that just makes it even more smooth. Probably one of the best Danish releases this year!

The Dandy Warhols are back! They released their second album which totally screwed thing up and didn't sell 3 copies. They starred in the AMAZING documentary DiG! and started their own label on which Earth To The Dandy Warhols is released. Just look at the cover and you've got yourself a good picture of what this sounds like. They're still sleazy. They're still sloppy. They're still silly. And they're still sexy. Song titles as Sheriff Shorty and Musee D'Nougat say pretty much. This is so damn easy to enjoy!

Bad quality cover, high quality music. Evil Superstars was one of the best Belgian indie bands ever. Consisting of Mauro Pawlowski (dEUS and everything that can beat a rhytm in Belgium) and Tim Vanhamel (Eagles Of Death Metal and his solo project), among others, it's no wonder this album is incredibly good. A Classic Education could just be the next hot indie thing. This part-Italian part-Canadian threepiece has already played warmup gigs for such acts as Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse and Lightspeed Champion. It's orchestral indie-poprock with string-stroked grandiosity and epic, multi-layered twee drenched indie expanse. Think Arcade Fire listening a bit too much to U2 without having the resources to recreate their sound, so why not just play it super-indie.

Here's a masterpiece soundtrack to a masterpiece movie. It's filled with terrific old rock'n'roll(old, i tell you.), country, mexican rock'n'roll(if it has to be classified) and 80's funk. Trust me, its way better than it sounds. The tunes are great and couldn't have been chosen better for the scenes in Pulp Fiction. No wonder that the movie made a cult status.

Damn, I'm busy posting all time! This is Primal Scream's 9th and latest album. The album title indicates that Gillespie and co. doesn't exactly want to kick us in the nuts and that says pretty much about Beautiful Future. With two happy albums in a row, Primal Scream sure has lost some of its edge but, luckily, they're still capable of writing good songs (One of the songs is with added Josh Homme, by the way). Let's hope that Primal Scream will give us that kick in the nuts with their 10th album. Or at least just a punch somewhere.

I shall introduce you to: Magnetic Morning. Formerly known as The Setting Suns, Magnetic Morning are a hand-in-glove pairing of Swervedriver singer/guitarist Adam Franklin and Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino. This is their 5-track debut EP and it's a great shot of alternative post-punk indie-shoegazing. The melodies are damn fine and together with the tight drumming of Fogarino and the cool vocals of Franklin it makes a more than promising debut EP. I'm looking forwards to hearing more stuff from these guys and I hope you'll do too.

Here's something you don't know. Named after a Velvet Underground song, The Black Angels play psychedelic drone-rock at it's best. Intense, acid, twisted, hynotizing and fucking amazing. This isn't close to sounding like anything, admitting that some songs do whisper The Doors in the background. This is one of the most interesting albums of 2008 and every fan of good music should do themselves a favor and listen to this. There's nothing to do but to sit down, listen to and worship Directions To See A Ghost.

As said, the first one is Bright Eyes man Conor Oberst's latest outcome. This guy is pretty fucked up, and he delivers both punk music and laid back acoustic music. Being compared to Bob Dylan sure is some of a pressure, but Oberst seems to handle it pretty well, this album being no exception.

Okay, the case is that I'm going to Spain tomorrow and I won't post anything the next two weeks. So! I shall present you: The "okay" albums of 2008! It's the 16th of July, and I already have about 40 albums released in 2008. Some of them rock. Some of them rock hard. Some of them are almost masterpieces. And some of them are good, but not that good. Allow me to take it away:

Lenny Kravitz - It Is Time For A Love Revolution

Lenny might be the king of funky, and It Is Time... sure is a groovy thing. As always, Lenny writes good songs, BUT, none of them are brilliant. He's got the grooves (just listen to the title track or Will You Marry Me), but he doesn't give it to us a 100%. Something's missing out. The first single is alright, it's the über-clichéed piano-driven ballad, I'll Be Waitng. There is grooves here, but something's still missing.

Filter - Anthems For The Damned

Just look at that album title. Filter files themselves under "Industrial", but it's not really Industrial. The producing of the album has given it a metallic edge, but that's about all that is Industrial on this album. Nine Inch Nails do Industrial way better. So, why listen to this album? There's one answer to that question, and that answer is: Frontman Richard Patrick. His voice is really, really good and that is what saves Filter from just being lame industrial rock.

Filter rock. But not very hard.

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs

Death Cab For Cutie say they've written more rock-orientated songs this time. They may have, but you can't really hear it. This is well-produced, but there is a massive lack of memorable songs on this album. The only song that sticks to my brain is the 8-minute single, I Will Possess Your Heart, that starts with a 5-minute instrumental jam. Other than that, there really isn't anything special and that is that makes Narrow Stairs their weakest effort yet.

They sound like "the middle of the road" for emotional teens. That's a step down the "Narrow Stairs". Haha. Oh...

The Subways - All Or Nothing

The Subways' second album, and now they're going for both "rock-ish", "pop-ish", "hard-rock-ish" and, sorry, a bit of "rubbish". The stand-out kick-ass track is the "hard-rock-ish" track called Girls And Boys. Tom Morello helped writing that riff. It kicks in at 0:32, and it's a damn cool riff. Nuff said. The track called Alright really isn't alright, and the album sounds too much of "pop-ish" which is "rubbish". If it had more "rock-ish" and less "pop-ish" it wouldn't be "rubbish" which limits "pop-ish" in this case.

It really isn't All Or Nothing. Ish.

Okay, the case is that I'm going to Spain very soon and therefor, this may be the last post from me in about 2 weeks. But fear not, 'cause I've found something for you! His name is Beck Hansen and that's about all that you can put words on about Beck. He's been everywhere from electronica to lo-fi rock, and to be honest, I haven't heard this record yet. So I have no clue what it sounds like. But Beck would never publish a pile of shit, so I'm not throwing crap in your ears. I've heard a snippet of the title track, and it sounds pretty damn good. Modern Guilt is produced by Dangermouse (who also produced The Black Keys' latest outcome) and it's the summer soundtrack for you experimental music-lovers out there.
