Queens Of The Stone Age - Rated R (2000)

"RESTRICTED TO EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME".

That's what the "R" stands for. 

This is the second album from QOTSA, released in 2000, and definitely also one of their best recordings. Created in the shadow of the Desert Sessions, this album is much more experimental than the others, but that does not bring the quality down at all. Actually  the opposite occurs...

Queens Of The Stone Age - Queens Of The Stone Age (1998)

Today's treat is a historic album. It isn't legendary like Songs For The Deaf, but it truly was the start of something huge. The sound of this album reminds me pretty much of the one on Era Vulgaris (which of course will be posted this month), it's more of a lo-fi record which makes it different from the very "big" sound on Rated R (which of course will be posted this month) and Songs For The Deaf. The melodies on this album are phenomenal. They're catchy, yet challenging. On this album the setup is:
Josh Homme - Vocals, Guitar
Alfredo Hernándes - Drums
Carlo Von Sexron (aka Josh Homme) - bass, piano and keyboard. At the very end of the very last track, you can actually hear Nick Oliveri speaking in a phone message, in which he says that he is ready to play in Queens Of The Stone Age. It really underlines that this album was the start of something huge. This is sexy stoner rock at it's very best. Enjoy this, there's no different option.

Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum (2004)

Time for some more of this Mark Lanegan. Hjörtur posted Here Comes That Weird Chill yesterday, and he correctly mentioned that it was released as an EP to the Bubblegum album.
And here it is, Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan.
This album is kinda different from a lot of the Mark Lanegan solo-stuff, Bubblegum is mostly a bunch of straightforward, obscure, driven herion-rock songs. Most of the time, Lanegan tosses out the country and blues-influences. But luckily, that does definately not mean that there's a lack of intelligent, magnificent tunes on this album. The prominent guests on this album include PJ Harvey, Greg Dulli (The Twilight Singers, now The Gutter Twins together with Lanegan), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Chris Goss (Masters Of Reality), Izzy Stradlin (Guns N' Roses) and Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses, now Velvet Revolver). Enough have been said, now enjoy this fantastic rock album!

It's Theme-Time!

Oy folks!

So, Hjörtur and I have decided that we'll run a "Queens Of The Stone Age"-theme that probably lasts until June. This is the easiest way to publish all that legendary shit from the Queens themselves, Mark Lanegan, maybe some Foo Fighters, and almost everything related to the Queens.

Afterwards, this blog will concentrate on all that cool underground music that you don't know yet. But if you're a fan of some ass-kicking stoner-rock, you're already crying tears of joy. And you'll keep doing so until June.

Mark Lanegan - Here Comes That Weird Chill (2003)

These are really some brilliant tunes. This is definitely one of Lanegan's best albums, even though it was only released as a EP to the Bubblegum album.

That's a god damn shame.

Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf (2002)

So, this is our first music post. We really want to start off in a nice way, so we'll post one the best albums ever made. And yes, we are afraid of setting the bar too high. Queens Of The Stone Age is the most important band of this millenium. On "Songs For The Deaf" the QOTSA-lineup was the strongest we have ever seen.

As we clearly pointed in the headline: Hello.

Finally, our music blog got started. Don't have any future expectations considering this blog, we really don't know what is going to happen. In not so damn long time, this blog will hopefully explode the internet with shit loads of Artrock. We do not run this blog because we WANT to, we do it because we HAVE to. It's our destiny. It's a call from the Lord. Hallelujah!
